We are a volunteer run local seed saving network for the Byron Bay Hinterland and surrounds, under the umbrella of the Byron Bay Seed Savers Network.

Started in 2011 by Rasa Dover, in 2013 Paul Crebar joined the organisation to support Rasa. Beyond these two volunteering hours, many people have contributed to make Byron Hinterland Seed Savers the wonderful organisation it is today. In 2019 Hilary Bain joined the network in a regular volunteering role to provide event support.

We hold local garden tour events to share and encourage people to save their own seeds. We aim to do this on a quarterly basis.

In 2018 we received a grant from Santos Organics to fund the creation of Byron Seed Share. This is a free community-fed platform about growing local food and sharing your abundance. A place to learn about the best perennial foods you should grow here in the Byron Shire, how to care for and consume them, and best of all who has them growing and who is willing to share them for free. Byron Hinterland Seed Savers put the list together and commissioned local permcaulture teacher and perennial food enthusiast Sharon Gibson to provide the content for all the perennial foods. Sharon is busy writing a Perennial Foods books which we look forward to getting our hands on in the future.
